With Family Life Insurance we offer level term life insurance and a more permanent version of life insurance. A level term life insurance policy is a type of policy where you choose how long you want coverage for. With Cover Direct it can be between 10 and 30 years. Another feature of a level term policy is that what you pay in premiums will stay the same for the length of the policy term.

Term life insurance

Term life insurance offers coverage for a set amount of time. If you pass away during this time period, your family will receive a lump sum payout. A member of our team will help you decide on a suitable period between 10 and 30 years3.

Whole of life insurance   

Whole of life insurance, also known as permanent life insurance, offers coverage for the remainder of your life. So, if you keep up with your monthly payments, your loved ones will receive a lump sum payout when you die. This can offer you peace of mind that they have support when the time comes3.

Optional additional coverage

Life is full of surprises and unfortunately, not all of them are good. If you would like greater peace of mind, we can discuss some of the optional extras with you. They are available during the application process, and these optional extras do not require a medical to be accepted. These optional extras will pay a tax-free lump sum amount to you, or your loved ones.

Children’s Coverage

  • Coverage of $30,000
  • Pays out for accidental death and a range of illnesses and accidental injuries. For full list of conditions please see our T&Cs
  • Minimum age at the start date of at least 1 and maximum age at start date of 17
  • Coverage ends when the insured child turns 21

Critical Illness Insurance

  • Coverage of $50,000
  • Pays out for a variety of illnesses such as Heart Attack, Cancer, Stroke and Coronary Artery Bypass grafts. For a definition of each condition please see our policy terms and conditions
  • Minimum age at the start date is 18 and maximum age at the start date is 60
  • Coverage ends when the life insured turns 70

Cover Direct Family Level Term Life Insurance is protection that helps to ensure your loved ones have some financial help in place if the worst were to happen. There are two types of policy available: level term life insurance and a more permanent type of life insurance. With a level term life policy, the term lasts between 10 and 30 years depending on your age. If you die during the term, your legal beneficiary will receive a cash amount. With the second kind of life policy, you’ll be protected for the rest of your life, if you keep paying the premiums. That means that if you pass at any time, your loved ones will receive a cash amount. A member of our expert team will explain all the details over the phone.

You must be a Canadian resident aged 18-70 to apply for coverage1. Our coverage is exclusive to us and can only be arranged directly. Simply choose a benefit amount with a monthly premium that you can afford, and you’ll have protection in place for your loved ones.

You are not covered for death as a result of suicide until 24 months after your policy has begun. The optional children's coverage and Critical Illness Insurance will only cover the specific types of death, injury or illness defined in the policy terms and conditions.

Generally, the younger you are when you take out a life insurance policy, the cheaper your premiums could be. You can apply for larger benefit amounts when you take out a policy sooner rather than later. However, the decision to purchase life insurance depends on your personal circumstances and needs. While you may have protection through your employer now, if you leave your job for any reason in the future your coverage may end, and you could be left without any protection. Because of this you might want to consider taking out your own life insurance policy. 

With a level term life insurance policy you will have to pay monthly premiums until the end of your coverage term. You will select this period when applying for your policy. It could be between 10 and 30 years depending on your circumstance.

If you choose the more permanent life insurance, as long as you pay monthly premiums, you will have coverage for the rest of your life.

If you cancel your life insurance policy, you will no longer pay premiums. If you cancel your policy more than 30 days after the start date, you won’t get anything back.

Step 1 - Contact us

To start the claims process, simply call us or email claims@coverdirect.ca. Our claims team are highly trained and handle claims with care and compassion.

Step 2 - Submit

We will send you a claim form to be completed, signed, and returned to us. The claim will then be reviewed as quickly as possible. We may need more information, in which case the person making the claim might be contacted.

Step 3 - Payout

Once your claim is approved, we will pay the benefit amount to the person legally entitled to it.
